Pokemon Go

From causing massive highway accidents to helping little teenage girls uncover dead bodies, Pokemon GO is an app I'm sure you've heard more than enough about this past week. The app was released on July 5th, 2016 with wide open arms. In the week that it's been released, the app has generated over $14 million which already puts it over any other Nintendo game on the marketplace which includes Pokemon Shuffle which was released in August 2015. The AR application has become such a success that it's daily users has surpassed those of Tinder and is closing in on the number of people that use Twitter on a daily basis. According to data from SimilarWeb, more than 60% of people who downloaded the app are using it everyday. To put the success into perspective, Pokemon Go has increased Nintendo's marketshare value by 25% which translates into about $12 billion dollars, in about a week. Of course the launch wasn't perfect though. It's overwhelming demand caused the servers to fail for days at a time, people have been forcibly logged off their google accounts and there are more than a couple of safety concerns surrounding the app. This app is for all ages and if you haven't yet, download the app and read this article on a few tips you should while playing the game. http://bit.ly/29w043L

OverWatch Competitive Mode

Overwatch's competitive mode (Ranked mode) was released on June 28th, 2016 where players will finally be put to the test and climb the ladders the ranks of the elite! The mode has been out for a couple of weeks but the reason it's making major news, is because Blizzard has decided to restrict a one-character-per-team limit. So players won't be seeing full teams of Soldier 76 or Tobjorn for much longer. Competitive play is going to see plenty of changes in the upcoming weeks which include D.Va and Zenyatta power boosts, fair and equal rewards for ties, and the new playable character, Ana.

Red Dead Redemption Backward Compatibility

Regarded as one of the best storylines in recent gaming history, Red Dead Redemption was finally released for the Xbox One via backwards compatibility. What was previously ranked as No. 1093 on Amazon for "Most Popular Video Game" a week ago, is now ranked No. 17 after a week. The backwards compatibility announcement has skyrocketed the game's sales by over 6000%. Sooooooooo...If you've missed out on probably one of the greatest experiences in gaming history, go pick yourself up a copy because Xbox Live has the game on sale right now.

New Fallout 4 DLC announced

The amount of love and support Bethesda is showing it's fans and players has been amazing for the past few months. Bethesda has been steadily releasing DLC throughout the summer with this one being the fourth DLC pack to be released until now. "Vault-Tec Workshop" will be release on July 26th, 2016 and was announced of Bethesda's official Twitch channel via livestream. The DLC is priced at just $5 dollar and will allow players to create a massive vault where players will be able to "experiment" on their dwellers. You become the Overseer. You decide who the ideal citizen and what it takes to become him. After a long line of DLC release, we should expect one last DLC. Nuka World seems to be a substantial DLC and will be Fallout 4's last expansion. *Crossing Fingers* Here's to hoping that it'll be better than Fallout 3's Mothership Zeta!

Summer Games Done Quick

Games Done Quick is a bi-annual charity gaming marathon where volunteers play games at incredible and super human speeds (Speedrunning) for your entertainment. The event is completely live streamed and every donation is sent directly to a charity. This month was their Summer event with their Winter event beginning sometime in January. Games Done Quick was able to raise nearly $1.3 million dollars in it's mid-summer week long event. With over 22,000 donors, Games Done Quick beat their record of $1.2 million raised at their last event. The money will be sent directly to Doctors Without Borders. This is probably one of the most heartwarming and amazing stories I've heard in gaming in a long time. It's amazing how much this community has and is willing to give to those in need. This event featured over 177 different speed runs and it's greatest moments can be seen here

Playstation VP leaves

Playstation's VP, Adam Boyes, has decided to leave the company and return to game development. Boyes announced his departure via Twitter on July 7th,2016 and on Playstation Blogcast. He also specified that he would be working for an independent developer and plans to fully concentrate his efforts into video game development. Boyes joined Sony in 2012 and has since appeared in multiple E3 and Playstation Experience press conferences. You might more accurately remember from his Playstation video where he explains how to play used Playstation 4 games. Good for you Adam, follow your dream and I hope it leads you to where you want to be. Congrats.

No Man's Sky is FINALLY finished

After countless delays and announcements, No Man's Sky is finally complete. Sean Murray, Hello Games Founder, announced on Twitter that the game will go on sale on August 9th, 2016. No Man's Sky was originally set to launch on June 21st, 2016 but after some development delays, it went gold on July 7th, 2016. The delays actually caused the Hello Games Founder to receive death threats so yeah the hype is pretty real. The game was first announced in 2013 and has been highly anticipated for it's procedurally generated universe. We'll have our hands full with this game for quite a long time.
