Why Dating A Gamer Is The Best Thing That Will Ever Happen To You

So you've probably read our article on the 10 things you should know before dating a gamer. Well we just wanted you to know how dating that gamer is probably the best thing that has ever happened to you. 


Gamers are tech-savy

Technology literally changes everyday. Gaming technology, more specifically, changes almost everyday. As gamers we need to keep up with the news so we can prepare. We know what's going on in the tech industry like 99.9% of the time! It's our job as gamers to stay informed. Another perk of our tech-saviness (that's a word right?) is the fact that there's no need to call a repair man...trust me! The days of looking up guides, walkthroughs and collectibles have prepared us to google and solve problems on our own since the day we started gaming! Youtube videos on how to repair our Red Ring of Death Xbox 360 or how to set up our routers so that we can connect to our friends have trained our tech abilities beyond comprehension! (I'm kidding...sort of) But these situations have definitely prepared us to help you get rid of a virus though. If we haven't learned how to do it yet, don't worry because we'll find a way...we always find a way. *Evil Laugh*

Gamers are usually smart

Gamers are often associated with poor academic and lackadaisical performance in school. All too often, Gamers have been torn away from their gaming technologies because parents believed that they would "rot our brains" or because they felt that we were spending too much time on our favorite past time. Gaming has been the object of blame for all sorts of problems and since the 80s, when video games became a real household market, hundreds of studies and research have painted gamers in a bad light. Recent studies show that habitual gamers might be benefiting in a number of areas that your average Joe doesn't even know about. Studies have shown that gamers have improved Spatial orientation, memory formation, muscle memory as well as improved motor skills. So I promise you that we aren't just rotting our brains away.  

Gamers are usually good with their hands

You should be proud to have a partner who has the "hands of a surgeon"... almost literally. A recent study shows the possible link between video game play and laparoscopic surgical skill and suturing. Surgeons who played 3 hours or more a week made 37% fewer errors and completed their task 27% faster than their non-playing counter parts. I'm pretty sure your partner is playing more than 3 hours a week if they consider themselves a gamer. Those hands MUST be magic, but there's really no need to go in depth here right? I'm sure it's self explanatory *WINK WINK*

Gamers are magnificent problem solvers 

In 2011, people began playing a game called Foldit, an online puzzle game about protein folding. Researchers had previously been working to find out what structure of an enzyme caused an Aids-like disease in monkeys. They worked on the problem for 13 years. Gamers were able to solve the problem in 3 weeks. Collectively, we spend about 3 billion hours a day playing online games. If we could harness a fraction of that time and devote it to a union where gamers and scientist work together, the potential could be endless. 

Gamers take charge of the relationship

Coop gaming has prepared us, since the days of Double Dragon on the NES, to share the power in a relationship but don't expect us to hesitate on our choices. Modern gaming focuses on choices and we're forced to pick the destiny of our protagonist day in and day out. Games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Until Dawn, and Heavy Rain make us pick world altering choices where we see the effects and consequences almost immediately! (Anyone remember the Quick Time Events in Heavy Rain? EXACTLY!!!) If we ask you where you want to eat and you say "I don't really care..." or "It's up to you babe", rest assured that we already have a place in mind or we can pick one on the spot. Also, we pay attention to detail and plan dates and events according to your likes and passions. Expect some of the best gifts and dates you've ever had in your life.
 
Gamers don't give up easily 

Dying, losing, and persevering through an obstacle defines gaming at it's very core. Ask any gamer who has experienced the Water Temple in Ocarina of time or the Aztec level at the end of Goldeneye 007. Playing these levels instill a "never say never" spirit where the idea of reaching your goal is motivation enough to get you through the endless frustrations gaming can provide. If they're not willing to give up on Dark Souls, they won't give up on you! We're all heroes on the inside and we'll do whatever it takes to make you happy. 

What are bars and clubs? Low maintenance 

Gamers have one obsession - games. They don't really crave anything crazy like expensive dinners and expensive cloths. So if you plan a date around video games, it's probably going to save you a few bucks instead of a lunch out to an Italian Bistro. You know what they love so all you have to do is either spend time with them on their games, or buy them a new one. Now don't get me wrong, when it comes to gamers coming up with date ideas, you'll probably have some of the best dates of your life! Our imaginations are still very much alive. We've been through so many worlds and universes that we will definitely think of something outside of the box just to see you smile. (P.S it might be video game related...just saying...candy will be provided too...) 

Gamers, after all, are grown ups too 

Just because a guy/girl plays games doesn't make them a jerk, a nerd, a loser, and/or a bum. The group known as gamers is just too big for you to make any kind of assumption right off the bat. People are too quick to judge a gamer as immature or lazy simply because they decided to partake in such a hobby. Gaming is a hobby just like every other hobby on the planet. There will always be people who take it to the next level but those select few should not be overrepresented in our thoughts. At the end of the day, we all just need a big cup of MATURITY and should accept each other. Life is so much more fun when you live your life in a playful manner and your gaming partner is not only your best friend and love interest, but your teammate. They will be there to make you smile and laugh when you think everything around you is falling apart. Be happy and enjoy the time you spend with each other whether it's inside a virtual world or not.
