Guild Wars 2 Base Game Now Free

ArenaNet announced at PAX Prime that the Guild Wars 2 base game will be free without aggressive micro-transactions beginning August 29th. ArenaNet is allowing players to play for free in hopes that they will eventually upgrade to the paid expansion that is "Heart of thorns". The president of ArenaNet when people play the game, they're going to love it enough to want to upgrade. This business model is not about monetizing on free to play players but instead giving new players the opportunity to try the game out. The president believes that this transition period between the base game and Heart of Thorns is the perfect time to introduce new players to the experience.

Borderlands Movie announced

Video games have never been appropriately represented on the big screen. Randy Pitchford, the president and founder of Gearbox, is hoping Lionsgate will make the first good movie based on a video game. There has yet to be a confirmed cast or a release window but with the recent video game adaptation that was Hitman, excuse me if I'm a little worried about how this is going to turn out.

Multiple choices for Xbox One Premium Controllers?

At E3 2015, we were introduced to Microsoft's Elite controller geared towards competitive gamers. With mappable buttons and interfaces, it seemed like it was a good options for those with high gaming needs. BUT DO NOT FEAR, RAZER IS HERE! Razer announced a $150 controller of their own and describe it as "Pro-gamer-validated tournament grade" controller. The controller will add four extra buttons to the top and rear of the controller which will can be removed at anytime. Razer is marketing a "quick control panel" which allows players to quickly select profiles with different button maps. So we have choices now in which ridiculously expensive controller we want to buy right? Choices are always nice.
Pokemon Company Sues Over Fan Event

The Pokemon Company (TPC) , the owners of the iconic franchise Pokemon, have filed a lawsuit against two fans stating the willful copyright infringement of their IP for a party. The 5th Annual Unofficial PAX Kickoff Party, organized by Zach Shore and Ramar Larkin Jones, used the Pikachu and Snivey characters on their posters for the event which TPC is stating is a direct infringement on it's exclusive rights in the Pokemon Works. The Pokemon company is seeking damages (more than the standard rate since the infringement was conducted willfully), attorney fees, and to stop the organizers from have a similar event in the future. I might add that this party was not free. The sold out event sold tickets at $2 each.

Minecraft Story-mode announced for Wii U

Minecraft: Story Mode will be the first Minecraft game to appear on a Nintendo console. Telltales is extending Minecraft's reach and announced to The Verge that the game is coming to Wii U sometime at the end of 2015. Why wasn't this done earlier is my question.

Youtube Gaming Launched

Youtube Gaming is now live and acts as a hub for everything video game related. One of the biggest and most important features other than the automatic categorization of videos is the live stream. Streamers and viewers can rewind the action they miss by using the DVR mode which let's people buffer up to four hours of previous content on the stream. This is going to be one of Twitch's biggest competitors and it's important to pay attention to the platforms growth in the upcoming months. Maybe PewDiePie and Markiplier will do more live streaming? Who knows...

Mortal Kombat X canceled on PS3 and 360

Warner Brothers Interactive has decided to cancel the long delayed Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Mortal Kombat X. They released a statement explaining that they were unable to reach the quality set by current generation systems and have regrettably decided not to deliver the project as a whole. I just want to put this out there that the PS3 and X360 versions of the game were being developed by an entirely different team that produced the PS4 and X1 versions. Maybe that has something to do with it?
